Eric, the main character in our book, is a high school aged student. In spite of this I would never consider him in a clique. Sure he is on the swim team with other people, but how many of them are he actually friends with. I mean, come on, Mark Brittan is on his swim team for crying out loud.
At school Eric interacts with other students in varying ways. He doesn't talk to Ellerby like he talks to Jody. He is also disrespectful to certain authoritative figures (ie. Mautz) and picks on Mark with Ellerby. In addition he was bullied when he was in middle school which could have left a lasting impact on him.
Honestly, I think Eric will be a successful adult. He stands up to people that he disagrees with and he is a good friend. He's going to have a good life.
