Eric is a strong opinionated wimp. There is no better way to say it. He has many opinions but is too afraid to do anything about it. Sarah Byrnes kept him from hiding in a shell until he started swimming and shed his shell (literally). He's still a slight outcast but he has gotten better from being around Sarah.
Honestly I like Eric. I think he means well and I agree with most of his views. He clearly doesn't intend to hurt anyone (with the exception of Britten but who wouldn't.) The only thing I would change about him would be to make him stand up in himself more. Though truthfully his imperfections make him more personable. He seems more realistic than other characters I have read about.
