Eric Calhoune is the main protagonist of "Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes". As the title implies, he's kind of fat. Okay. Pretty fat. He's the best friend of Sarah Byrnes, mainly because, and I quote, "he was as fat as she was ugly". He goes by many nicknames: Fat Boy, Moby, Mobe, Double E, Eric Enigma, and Eric.
Eric is a swimmer, and not a half bad one too. He's... he's a wimp. No way around it. Eric. Is. A. WIMP. Any time he gets in trouble, he's always relying on Sarah Byrnes to save his butt, whether it be by fighting Dale Thorton or rolling him away in a box that says flammable on a dolly. Eric doesn't really have many habits, but he does like to swim, and he used to write a "newspaper" with Sarah Byrnes called "Crispy Pork Rinds", which when you learn the context of the name, is really depressing.
I mostly like Eric. He's pretty relatable, since he's not the picture perfect ever so slim jock with a bunch of ditzy little cheerleaders swooning over him. He's not perfect, which makes him a perfect character, if that makes sense. He gets angry, upset (over actually IMPORTANT matters), and has actual emotions that aren't just all about romance. So far, it's not even about a romance. It's about his friendship with Sarah Byrnes. The only thing that I don't like about Eric is his wimpiness. Seriously, dude, man up! Stand up for yourself!
