I rated Eric Calhoune as weak. He gets stronger near the end of the book, but I still think that overall, he is weak. (I guess I could of put him a little farther away from the weak side though...) When we compared our ratings, everyone put Eric as very weak. He was the weakest of all the characters in the literature circle's books. (Again, I guess he could've been rated a little bit stronger.) Our group's opinions on Eric did not differ that much.

I guess this might be kind of a spoiler. I think/know that Eric gets stronger as the book goes on, especially at the end. He does some pretty brave things like when Virgil Byrnes or Sarah Byrne's dad stabbed him with a hunting knife. As I said two times before already, I probably should have rated him farther up the scale a bit. He definitely gets a lot stronger.
I feel that Eric is in the middle because he sometimes stands up for himself and states his own opinion and doesn't agree completely with certain characters.
